My Aunt Lois took this picture of Dan and our dog Queenie. They were down at the Willamete River in front of our grandparents home. We lived only a few blocks from the river. She had entered this picture in the Eugene Lane county fair. I believe she got a ribbon for it.
My mother, ( Orpha) and I sitting on the couch at our house. Not sure of the year but in the later 1960's.
Mother and I sitting on the car of our new little Datsun. This is the car that I drove on the beach in Forence, Oregon. My brother Elmer told me not to stop on wet sand. And of course I did. The car sunk and got stuck. The tide was coming in and the water was up to the top of the door. A prayer was said and then some guys in a van came along and helped us get it out. We spent the rest of the day at the car wash trying to get all the salt water off and sand out. We never did tell our parents.
Here is a picture of Elmer on the tractor with Grandpa (Harold) Chase, with cousin Jim, Janis, Jackie, me (Laura) and Dan sitting on the trailer. This is the trailer that went up and down the walnut orchard that my grandparents owned. Picking up sacks of walnuts that migrant workers picked up. Of course Elmer and I did our share too. There was trees behind our house that we picked walnuts up off the ground after the trees had been shaken. This picture was taken in the late 1950's.
